Overview

Dr. Moxley delivers an in-depth and thought-provoking lecture examining the complex landscape of healthcare disparities and the profound impact that social determinants of health have on patient outcomes, healthcare access, and overall quality of life. Drawing on current data, research, and real-world examples from South Carolina’s diverse communities, he explores the social, economic, geographic, and systemic factors that contribute to inequities in healthcare delivery.

The presentation highlights the unique challenges experienced by medically underserved and vulnerable populations, including barriers to accessing preventive services, timely diagnosis and treatment, specialty care, and other essential healthcare resources. Dr. Moxley also addresses the ways in which these disparities can influence disease burden, treatment outcomes, and long-term health outcomes.

Through a combination of data-driven insights and practical examples, the lecture identifies opportunities for healthcare professionals and organizations to recognize and address disparities within their own practices and communities. Strategies to promote health equity, strengthen access to care, address social and structural barriers, and support more equitable healthcare delivery are explored, providing participants with actionable approaches for advancing more inclusive and patient-centered care.
