Overview

The need for evidenced-based practice in neonatology is increasingly important as clinical decisions and treatments are made. The conference is designed to help NICU professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse managers and experienced staff nurses make those decisions. The goal of the conference is to share evidence-based approaches in the care of the neonate.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Evaluate current evidence-based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies used in the care of neonates, including management of seizures, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, gastroesophageal reflux, kidney disease, infectious diseases, and other complex neonatal conditions.
  2. Apply emerging clinical research and best practices to optimize neonatal outcomes, including advances in microbiome science, transfusion strategies, medication safety, caffeine therapy, and novel therapeutic approaches in the NICU.
  3. Assess the impact of maternal health conditions and treatments on fetal and neonatal outcomes, including opioid use disorder, maternal depression, congenital infections, and other prenatal exposures that influence neonatal care.
  4. ntegrate interdisciplinary and family-centered approaches into neonatal practice by addressing ethical considerations, palliative and end-of-life care, vaccine hesitancy, provider roles in public health challenges, and complex clinical decision-making in the NICU.
